Mawson is a boutique investment management company founded in 2010, owned and managed by a small team of investment management professionals with over 60 years of combined experience in financial markets.

Mawson’s name is a reference to the great Australian explorer, Sir Douglas Mawson, who showed the leadership, courage and commitment to survive in the most difficult of situations; attributes that we believe typify what it takes for an investment manager to deliver exceptional long term performance.

Our Investment Philosophy

We have a market neutral philosophy to investment, as we believe that the preservation of investors capital is paramount. We believe that active portfolio management, dynamic asset allocation and disciplined risk management rank equally to prudent stock selection.

Our active approach to  investment prevents us from acquiring stocks in companies we don’t like (as index funds do) in our portfolio, neither are we beholden to any particular industry or sector. This fexibility allows us to seek out companies with superior growth prospects. Due to our size and active management style we are nimble and can
react quickly to ever-changing market dynamics.

Working with investments.

Our Investment Process

Mawson Investment Management applies a Macro Level overlay to its investment approach. We are driven to seek out and invest in under-valued companies that satisfy Mawson’s investment criteria. Whilst our scope to examine a company is unlimited, we begin with applying a thematic overlay to see if we then can observe its qualitative merits. If the company in question passes these first two phases we will then calculate its value. This valuation is then compared to a prospective investment’s current market value, and this is then ranked against other investments in our Investment Portfolio. Due to this disciplined approach to stock selection we often find few companies that satisfy our criteria for investment.

Once an investment has been approved, the next steps include asset allocation and risk management. Our Portfolio management and risk allocation principles include asset allocation, preservation of capital and portfolio monitoring and review.

Our decision to exit an investment can be, but is not limited to, a change in a fundamental aspect such as company earnings and fair value, or a better investment opportunity elsewhere.
